KOSMISCHE MOUND

Kicking off 2010 with a veritable flurry of activity that will see three
mixes going onto the blog in quick succession (hopefully all this weekend).
First up is another of my mixes. It started out being a typically broad spectrum mix with plenty of rocking tracks but I was really happy with the flow of the first 10 minutes or so and felt
it would be nice to go back and start with the same tracks and go somewhere quite different. The end result is more coherently cosmic and with plenty of friendly faces from cosmic/electronic scenes new and old! Music for some late night head space.

MYSTIC BISCUIT MIX

I'm happy to present the first multi-artist/multi-genre Polle Van De Gash mix for quite some time. Recorded on the 10th November, it's taken me nearly a month to get around to putting the various bits together and get it uploaded. It's business as unusual, a truckload of weird and wonderful tracks mixed and moulded together into a gloriously disorientating and engaging 75 minutes. Rock, psych, library music, electronics, French nutters, Chubby Checker. Well, I hope it's engaging anyway. I'm pretty happy with it so it's tough if your not. You can always drop it in your trash and play some of your usual fare on your iTunes instead. Tidy.

Thanks to everyone that's downloaded some of the stuff on the blog so far. Most downloads are in double figures by now!

It's a pretty big file, 320 kbps. 38 tracks. Running time 75:44.

THE HELDON MIXES

Ah, the mighty Heldon! Fresh from my Human League post a couple of days ago I got the urge to follow it up quickly. So here we have a C90's worth of Heldon action. If you don't know Heldon then I'm not going to fill you in with too much detail. Suffice to say this is seriously heavyweight French prog/RIO music - in turn harsh, cold, abstract, cosmic and intense but always utterly beguiling. I hope I haven't undermined these qualities by botching together these mixes from their varied LPs. Both the mixes are self-contained but intended to flow one after the other for a 95 minute Heldon-megablast! Go on you buggers, see what you think...

THE HUMAN LEAGUE MIX

There's been a bit of a Human League thing going down in my corner of Bethnal Towers recently. I think it started when we were playing 'Black Hit of Space' while testing out K-Dog's 'new-old' amp and speaker combo at his place in Aalst a couple of weeks back. To my mild surprise, my girlfriend (hey zoeteke!) was digging it. So I thought a Human League compilation for her would be in order. The compilation covers the first four albums and I think offers a pretty good selection. However, there's an absence of most of the weird and wonderful instrumental stuff and early works so I thought I'd have a bit of fun with it and generate a new blog post in the process.

By the way, thanks to those of you who've downloaded mixes so far. No one's downloaded the Raj & Rolex album yet though. Go on, don't be shy, give it a try!

LIBRARY MUSIC III - SPACE COMMODITIES

The third and final part (for now) of the Library Mix series. It was done on the 4th of July shortly after Parts I and II but extensive holiday activities over the summer (lucky me!) means a delay in posting it. More of the same
multifarious melodies and abstractions - 39 tracks squeezed into a 66 minute mix.
320kbps for extra pleasure.

Two super sweet minutes of YouTube action. Filmed for a Rachel Welch TV special. If you know what the track is then please let me know.

LIBRARY MUSIC MIXES

A veritable flurry of activity at the end of this week has resulted in not one but two quickly cobbled together library music mixes. All as a result of a prolonged library music listening session earlier in the week. This isn't the elevator/supermarket music some might think it is. It's tough, funky, cosmic and concrete stuff from KPM, IM, CAM, April Orchestra, Tele Music, De Wolfe and the like.

Big props to The Library Hunt and Library Music Rarities blogs where I downloaded most of the tracks from. If you like library music you really should be checking those blogs out.

RAJ & ROLEX - CUP OF TEA, GAME OF FOOTBALL

.........WILLIAM RAJ...................JK ROLEX..............

Back on the blog. It's only been 7 months since the last post. No mix this time but a proper album. Proper may be a bit of a misnomer though. This Raj & Rolex set consists of nine tracks produced one afternoon a few years ago during a couple of hours of loosely improvised electronic jam-foolery. Over the 38-odd minutes you'll be treated to field recordings from supermarkets and art galleries, cartoons, Faustian acts of damnation, gypsy strings and helicopters sketchily attached to stuttering electronic and cosmic soundscapes.

POLLE VAN DE GASH - IT'S A GASH GASH GASH GASH WORLD

I was having a rummage around Lupin House yesterday whilst Alex G was getting his techno mix (see below) ready, I found the a copy of 'It's A Gash Gash Gash Gash World'. Trouble is with all my old home made CDs is that I would always put a nice printed CD sticker on the disc. A lot of CD players, especially computers, get really arsey about it and refuse to go further that about a third of the way into the disc before giving up. So, I stuck the disc in the computer and it worked it's way through to the end without a care in the world. Bless. This joyous news means I can share it with you now. 33 tracks over 74 minutes covering electronics, psychedelia, library, spoken word, pop, avant-rock and more.

ALEX G - A QUESTION OF RE-ENTRY - TECHNO MIX

A bit of a change of scene for this post. Amateur Athlete Alex G delivers a sterling 47 minute techno mix selecting classics and personal favourites from the 90s. When I say techno, obviously I mean proper techno. There's no tracklisting as such - Alex was too busy at the time to make a note and now it just doesn't seem necessary. Once you get listening though, expect to find some Carl Craig, Anthony 'Shake' Shakir and Mark Bell (as both LFO and his lesser known Detroit style alias Clark). Expect a follow up mix soon(ish) people!

POLLE VAN DE GASH - CREPUSCULAR MIX APRIL 08

It's been a long time but finally there's a new post. Not that anyone will have noticed. None of this changes the glorious news that I've popped out another springtime mix which, naturally, was destined to end up on here. Loosely speaking, it's a synth/electronics [though not entirely] thing. Mostly 70s/80s but with a splash of 21st Century action for good measure. There's some sublime and a touch of ridiculous too. Obviously, I like it. Give it a sniff and see what you think!

aLOSTaSOULS are a small, perfectly formed team of promoters/DJs based in Aalst (or Alosta) in Belgium.

POLLE VAN DE GASH - AA MOVIE MIX

Another Polle Van De Gash mix. This one was produced to celebrate the Halloween Amateur Athletics event, 31st October 2007. The night itself was a launch party for the Trunk Records release of the fabulous 'Blood On Satan's Claw' soundtrack. If you don't know the film or the soundtrack then I would strongly recommend checking either/both out.

The mix is in six parts. There's no tracklist for this mix. As well as plenty of dark and horror tracks there's plenty of gentle flighty moments too. Enjoy!
